Abstract
The recent discovery of long-sought dice-lattice bands in layered electride YCl opens up unprecedented opportunities for studying correlated electrons in real dice lattice systems. While the weakly dispersive band at the Fermi level is partially filled and density-wave states are expected due to Fermi surface nesting based on conventional theories, the ARPES measurement nevertheless revealed a uniform flat band splitting of 0.5 eV, suggesting unusual ferromagnetism (FM) borne out of the metallic 2D dice lattice. In this Letter, we propose that the uniform metallic FM order is stabilized by the prominent quantum metric near topological band crossing points at K and K', which reconstructs the magnetic instability in the dice metal and tips the density-wave instability toward a uniform FM order. Importantly, our analysis based on random phase approximation (RPA) and Hartree-Fock theory predicts a remarkably high Curie temperature above room temperature for the 2D FM order. These findings establish the first example of a room-temperature 2D metallic magnet stabilized by quantum metric, which not only exemplifies the fundamental significance of quantum geometry in solids but also bears far-reaching applications in energy-efficient high-density magnetic memories.
